Tips for Women Online Activists

“To build your movement: grow awareness, increase knowledge and co-create tools”

As winners of the second Womanity Award with Association for Progressive Communications (APC), Mexican based Luchadoras and Sandía Digital are coordinating a new entity called Siemprevivas [“Always Alive”], the new name for the localization of the Take Back The Tech! campaign in Mexico. Siemprevivas is a name that unites all core collectives participating in the project.

One year in their Award, the teams have grown, met with hundreds of young women activists in all parts of Mexico and abroad. They have learned on how to create and hold spaces for women leaders to have their voices heard and help them disseminate new techniques to reclaim the internet, as well as make it a space free of violence.
The task is hard and complex. Set backs are frequent. But with self-organization, learning, evidence building and resilient action, women are gaining ground.

Here’s a few tips that you can take away, inspired by Siemprevivas, and that you can use when you build a movement on line and off line and mount efforts to combat gender violence.
